NotOnlyFlops wins Fan Favorite Award at the ISC 2020 Student Cluster Competition

The winning team consists of six FIB students and it has won the award for having been the most voted during the contest.

The Student Cluster Competition 2020 is been held online from June 1 to 24 through the supercomputing platforms of the National Supercomputing Centre in Singapore. This is the sixth time that a team of UPC students has competed in the Student Cluster Competition, and the third time that they have won the Fan Favorite award.


NotOnlyFlops are composed by Adrián Álvarez Martínez, Carlos Bayona Peinado, Marc Clascà Ramírez, David Jurado Balaer, Pedro Megias Montesinos and Xavier Torres Alonso. The team received the prize during the virtual award ceremony that took place on June 24 at the ISC 2020 Digital Conference.


The first award went to students from the China's University of Science and Technology (USTC) and the second to the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) in South Africa, while the third award and the Honorable Mention went to Tsinghua University in China and to the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, respectively.


This year's competition has focused on the global fight against COVID-19, introducing applications addressed to education. The student teams had to test several applications used by scientists and researchers to find a cure against the pandemic.The ISC Student Cluster Competition is organized by the HPC AI Advisory Council, and is part of a global effort to educate and teach the next generation of scientists and programmers to help the world in the future in the event of an epidemic.
