Automatic Control

The Department of Systems Engineering, Automatic Control and Industrial Informatics (ESAII) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) promotes research and teaching in both the fundamental and applied aspects of the following fields:

• Robotics
  Within the field of robotics, work is carried out on the integration of sensors and perception systems for the development of more efficient, more intelligent, or more reliable control strategies and applications; in the areas of industrial robotics, medical robotics, and underwater robotics.
• Biomedical Signals and Systems
  Research in this area focuses on the following topics: the study of biomedical signals for the identification of various pathologies, the design and development of automatic systems to support clinical diagnosis, and the use of modeling and simulation techniques to characterize biological behavior.
• Advanced Control Systems
  The main objectives of this research line range from the development of new techniques for real-time supervision and fault diagnosis to the design of advanced controllers, distributed control systems, and intelligent control systems.
• Computer Vision
  Within the computer vision research line, work is carried out on the study and development of algorithms specialized in real-time image processing for specific industrial applications, as well as on the development of visual perception systems.

The department carries out its research and technology transfer activities through its research groups.
