UPC and Orange, alliance for the future of ICT

The UPC, together with the communication technologies company, Orange, have just signed a cooperation agreement in order to carry out several activities regarding training, technological development research, and technology transfer.

Francesc Torres, the rector of the university, and Jordi Berenguer, vice-rector for Knowledge and Innovation Transfer, have attended the event.

Teaching and training is one of the courses of action stablished in the actual agreement. It includes a proposal to collaborate in the training activities for the bachelor’s and master’s degrees courses within the area of Information and Communication Technologies. Both partners will also work together in the Advanced Engineering Projects, under the supervision of the UPC professors. Furthermore, the contract would accomplish proposals of internship contracts, as well as Bachelor, and Master’s thesis with the cooperation of Orange’s technical staff.

Amongst the activities regarding research, transfer and valuation, a paramount part of the commitment to highlight is that Orange and UPC expect to develop and launch experimentation infrastructures and validation of technologies, in addition to mobile devices and systems communications within the 5G area. Consequently, the French multinational will participate with the research groups of Baix Llobregat and Nord Campus.

The actual agreement has a duration of four years and its intention is to continue with the promotion of research and technological innovation in order to get new generations involved and trained in the future of communication technologies.
