UPC Mask Recycling Campaign

You are here

UPC launched a campaign to collect reusable textile masks that were given to the university community before the summer and that have reached the end of its useful life.

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) distributed a total of 35,000 reusable textile masks to the university community before last summer. The initiative aimed to ensure the protection of the community at a time of low availability of self-protection elements, while at the same time advocating a solution that would prevent the generation of trash linked to COVID-19.

In order to promote the return of the maximum possible number of masks and to facilitate self-protection, the University will provide a new mask for each delivery. The initiative addresses both the university community and those outside the institution that have acquired the University's mask.

How to return the masks

From 1st March, UPC masks that have completed their life cycle can be deposited in a specific container that will be available near the University's habilitated Consortium. More than one piece can be delivered, and the staff of the conservatoire will exchange them for the same amount that has been returned, until stock is exhausted. Masks must be returned clean and must have removed the rubbers with scissors, ensuring that nothing remains, since the material to be recycled is only the mask tissue.
