The Alan Turing award for the CIO of the year recognizes the professional work of a Chief Information Officer at the state level during 2018.

Sergi Girona, Doctor in Computer Engineering from the UPC, is the CIO of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - National Center for Supercomputing (BSC-CNS). Since 2004 he holds the position of director of the Operations Department of the BSC. In 2017 was responsible for the implementation of the new supercomputer Marenostrum 4. He is also manager of the Red Española de Supercomputación (RES, the Spanish Supercomputing Network ) and an active member of the organization PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) since its inception.
