Mateo Valero, Honoris Causa for the Universitat de Múrcia

Mateo Valero, an international benchmark in supercomputing, he has been appointed Doctor Honoris Causa for the Universidad de Múrcia.

Mateo Valero Cortés, director from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS), has been invested doctor honoris causa by the Universitat de Múrcia (UMU), April 25, 2024.

The investiture, approved by the Senate of the UMU at the proposal of the Faculty of Informatics, wants to recognize the decisive influence of Valero as a world reference in research on computer architecture and design of more efficient and capable supercomputers.

The rector of the UMU highlighted Valero's great contributions in the field of computing «han sido reconocidas nacional e internacionalmente por las más prestigiosas instituciones y hacen de él, no solo un candidato idóneo para formar parte del claustro de la Universidad de Murcia, sino también un ejemplo y una referencia de la verdadera excelencia universitaria».

The one from the UMU is the eleventh Honoris Causa recognition that Mateo Valero has received. It is added to those of the Chalmers University of Technology, Universitat de Belgrad, Universitat de Las Palmas de Gran Canària, Universitat Veracruzana, Universitat de Saragossa, the Universitat Complutense de Madrid, the Universitat de Cantàbria, Doctor Honoris Causa elected by the Universitat de Granada, and Doctor Honoris Causa from CINVESTAV, and from the Universitat Cristóbal Colón in Mexico.
