You are here

Day: Wednesday, 16 February
Hour: 12 h
Speaker: Karina Gibert
Place: Sala d’Actes FIB and online

During the Info-day of the ARIS project, Karina Gibert, professor of the EIO department and director of the IDEAI-UPC research centre, will review the most important aspects of artificial intelligence development from an ethical perspective. The talk will take place on 16 February at 12 pm on Sala d’Actes Manuel Martí Recober (building B6, ground floor) and at the FIB YouTube channel. The talk will be in English.

Taking a walk through different real applications of the AI, Karina will make a reflection on how this technology affects many people's decisions. From technical decisions about the new 4.0 industry, for example, to opening or closing a valve from a biological reactor to a wastewater treatment plant, to much more routine decisions of our day, such as deciding which books we read in our free time.

We will consider the red lines of everything is ethically unacceptable in an AI application. Also, she will talk about the risks and benefits which users are exposed and how we can be critical and responsible consumers of this type of technology.

The speaker argues that technology is neutral, and it will be its uses that will make it acceptable or not, and this falls on ethical considerations.
