The director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), Mateo Valero, has been selected to recive the Charles Babbage Award about parallel computing of the world association of enginers Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) .

This new award recognizes to Mateo Valero his “contributions to parallel computation through brilliant technical work, mentoring PhD students, and building an incredibly productive European research environment.”
The award, consisting of a certificate and a $1,000 honorarium, will be presented on 31 May 2017 in Orlando (Florida) at the annual IEEE-CS International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS 2017). Valero will give a keynote speech on Runtime-Aware Architectures at the conference on 1 June 2017.
IEEE-CS Charles Babbage Award was established in memory of Charles Babbage, British mathematic, in recognition of his significant contributions in the field of parallel computation.
