La Nit de la Robòtica awards Carme Torras for her professional career

The Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau hosted the 2022 edition of "Nit de la Robòtica", a benchmark meeting of this strategic sector for Catalan industry.

The "Nit de la Robòtica " prize is the award that distinguishes the person with an outstanding professional career in the field of Robotics and who has contributed in a relevant way to the development of this technology.

The researcher Carme Torras has been awarded in this eighth edition for, among other contributions, promoting the ethical principles of robotics and their dissemination to the general public.

Torras has a degree in Mathematics from Universitat de Barcelona, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts and a doctorate in Computer Science from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Currently, she is developing her research activity as a professor at the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics (IRI), where she leads the research group in assistance robotics.

Likewise, she is has been the autor of more than 400 articles in scientific journals and conferences, with pioneering contributions in the fields of robotics, neurocomputation and artificial intelligence. He has directed 20 doctoral theses, led 17 European projects and published several novels such as "La mutación sentimental" (Pedrolo and Ictineu prizes), "Enxarxats" (Ictineu prize) and the collection of stories "Queridas máquinas" that deals with different ethical dilemmas raised by digital technologies.

Upon receiving the award, Carme Torras has said that "it is very gratifying to receive this recognition from my colleagues and I extend the award to the entire IRI team, and I would like to advance an open robotics assistance laboratory as a proposition for the future".
