Professor Antonio González receives one of the most prestigious awards in the world for computer architecture
Antonio González, Professor in the Department of Computer Architecture at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, has been honored with the 2025 B. Ramakrishna Rau Award, one of the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of computer architecture, granted by the EEE Computer Society.

The B. Ramakrishna Rau Award recognizes substantial contributions in the areas of computer microarchitecture and compiler code generation. It was established in memory of B. Ramakrishna Rau, a pioneering researcher in innovative microarchitecture design and advanced compilation techniques, and is awarded annually to individuals who have distinguished themselves through technical excellence, leadership, and professional integrity in this field.

Antonio González, who holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from UPC, began his academic career in the Department of Computer Architecture, where in 1989 he founded the ARCO (ARchitecture and COmpilers) research group, which he has led ever since. His research has focused on computer architecture, compilers, and parallel processing, with particular emphasis on processor microarchitecture and code generation aimed at improving performance, energy efficiency, and system reliability.

He was among the first researchers to anticipate the importance of reducing the energy consumption of computing systems and has developed numerous innovative techniques to optimize the energy efficiency of key microprocessor components. These contributions have had a significant impact on both academic research and industry, establishing him as an international reference in the field of computer architecture.

The award ceremony will take place on October 21 in Seoul, South Korea, as part of the MICRO conference, one of the leading international events in computer architecture.
