On Wednesday, 9th of July, the Vèrtex Building at UPC hosted the graduation ceremony for the fifth graduating class of the Bachelor's Degree in Data Science and Engineering (GCED). It was a day to celebrate the students’ transition into professional life and to share the excitement for the new chapter that the newly graduated students are about to begin.

The event began with a welcome speech from Anna Rio, Dean of the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB), who then introduced the institutional addresses by Alba Pagès, Director of the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB), and Jordi Guàrdia, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics (FME).

Next, Elisenda Bou Balust, co-founder and CEO of Cala AI, gave a lecture titled "LLMs and the Information Multiverse – Lessons from Everything Everywhere All at Once," was filled with references to the film of the same name. Elisenda Bou encouraged the graduates to become agents of change, using the tools and experience they’ve acquired to navigate this multiverse. She urged them to never stop learning and to keep building community.

Professor Alba Pagès then introduced Professor Josep Vidal from the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, who had been chosen as the Academic mentor of the graduating class. He delivered a warm speech, laced with humor that brought smiles to the audience.

The highlight of the event was the diploma presentation, led by Guillem Perarnau, Head of Studies of the GCED program, with the support of Professor Vidal and members of the presidential panel. One by one, the students received their diplomas, greeted the institutional representatives, and captured the moment with a photograph.

The ceremony then continued with its second part, led by the graduates themselves. Three representatives addressed their classmates, faculty, program coordinators, and families, sharing reflections on their four-year journey through the program.

A video was then shown featuring photos that reflected the deep connections, shared experiences, and strong sense of unity that defined the class.

The ceremony concluded with the traditional group photo of the graduates from the 5th graduating class of the GCED program. After the ceremony, everyone gathered in the FIB square, where refreshments were offered. It was a time for celebration, conversation, and capturing memories at the specially prepared photo booth, closing a day filled with joy and emotion.

Congratulations to the Class of 2021–2025!
