The UPC celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with activities at the EPSEVG

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) organizes, as it does every year, various activities to commemorate 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This year, the events will take place on Thursday, 19 February, in the Escola Politècnica Superior d’Enginyeria de Vilanova i la Geltrú (EPSEVG).

Programme of the day:

  • 11:00 am: Visit to the poster exhibition in the Hall / Car and motorcycle workshop
  • 11:20 am: Car and motorcycle workshop / Visit to the poster exhibition in the Hall
  • 11:45 am: Visit to the Library
  • 12:00 pm: Institutional welcome by:
    • Ms Ariadna Llorens, Vice-Rector for Social Responsibility and Equality of the UPC
    • Ms Marisa Zaragozá, Director of the UPC Campus in Vilanova i la Geltrú
    • Ms Gisela Vargas, Councillor for Equality of the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council
  • 12:15 pm: Lecture “Women Scientists in Fiction: from forensic doctor Dana Scully to radio astronomer Ellie Arroway, via neurobiologist Amy Farrah”, by Manel Moreno Lupiañez, lecturer at the EPSEVG
  • 12:50 pm: Lecture “Dreaming Big: How Science Can Transform Lives”, by Maria Jesús Puerta Angulo, mining engineer and multidisciplinary specialist, winner of the Lunar Recycle Challenge (NASA)
  • 1:25 pm: Presentation of research projects by students from INS Mir de Vilanova
  • 1:45 pm: Closing session and aperitif with Francesc Torres, Rector of the UPC
