Two students from FIB have been awarded in the 2024 DonaTIC Awards. Martina Massana Massip received the award in the University ICT Student category, and Aurora Tomás Berjaga in the Doctoral ICT Student category.
Martina Massana is a third-year student of the GCED. In her high school research project, she developed a chatbot prototype capable of detecting, through interaction with students, whether someone may be experiencing bullying. The chatbot sends an alert to teachers so they can remain vigilant. She is currently working with a criminologist specializing in bullying and cyberbullying to incorporate the detection of cyberbullying, which is more prevalent in secondary education. In addition, she has written the book “I Am Different Too” and participates in outreach activities promoting STEM disciplines among girls, such as Female STEM Leaders at CosmoCaixa and initiatives at the Fundación Telefónica.
Aurora Tomás was a scholarship student at FIB, both in the study promotion (and museum) area and as a mentoring coordinator. Her doctoral thesis is being carried out within the ARCO research group at UPC, where she investigates new GPU microarchitectures that improve performance and energy efficiency. Computer architecture is a field that often remains underrecognized, yet it is essential, as only a well-designed architecture allows programs to run in a reasonable time while minimizing energy consumption. Before starting her PhD, she also participated in other research projects, such as Elpis and Horus, which can be used as educational tools to understand how processors work.
About the DonaTIC Awards
The Paloma Hall in Barcelona hosted the award ceremony, which included speeches by the Minister for Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper, and the Secretary for Digital Policies, Maria Galindo.
A total of 12 women from the business, professional and academic sectors, along with one business initiative and one social initiative, were recognised among the 70 candidates competing in the 2024 DonaTIC Awards, the tenth edition of these awards. The DonaTIC Awards are part of the DonaTIC Plan promoted by the Government with the main objective of achieving gender parity and increasing female leadership in the technological and digital sectors. They aim to recognise the role and talent of women in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and to provide role models for girls and young women, encouraging them to pursue these fields and take on leadership positions in the future.
