The recognition from the Government to the emeritus professor of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), Francesc Solé Parellada, is for his commitment to work and for having been a pioneer in the creation and dissemination of knowledge about the contribution of universities to economic and social development.
In 1998, Francesc Solé Parellada created the Innova programme at UPC (now Emprèn UPC), a pioneering programme in Spain due to its scope and ambition. The purpose of the programme was, and continues to be, to give value to the knowledge created through patents and the creation of companies, as well as to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation among the different groups within the University. He also promoted the creation of the Science and Technology Park, which became consolidated with 16 buildings distributed across the different UPC campuses and more than one hundred thousand square metres dedicated to research and entrepreneurship activities.
