The 1st Conference on Women in Computer Engineering was held on April 25, coinciding with the International Girls in ICT Day. The event was promoted by the Official College of Computer Engineering of the Valencian Community (COIICV) and the Council of Professional Colleges of Computer Engineering of Spain (CCII).
During this conference, Núria Castell Ariño was awarded the Ángela Ruiz Robles Award in recognition of her professional career. The award was presented by Karina Gibert and Davinia Bono, Director of Equality and of the Women’s Institute of the Valencian Community. Núria Castell expressed her gratitude for this award, which recognizes her career and her activism in reducing the gender gap in Computer Engineering.
Castell is one of the first women to graduate in Computer Science in Catalonia and Spain and served as Dean of the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) from 2010 to 2017. She also holds a PhD from UPC and has designed and led research, teaching and gender-related projects that have resulted in numerous publications.
