Josep Casanovas receives the Honorary Award at the Night of Telecommunications and Informatics

The 29th Night of Telecommunications and Informatics was held with the presentation of awards to the best professionals and projects in the ICT sector. Among the distinctions granted by the jury, Josep Casanovas, former dean of the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) and founder of the inLab FIB laboratory, received the Honorary Award, the highest distinction of the event.

Josep Casanovas holds a PhD in Computer Science, is an industrial engineer and a full professor in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He is also the director and founder of inLab FIB. His main research areas include modelling and simulation, social simulation, the Internet and information systems.

Casanovas was appointed dean of the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) in June 1998, and his mandate lasted until 2004.

He has participated in several research and innovation projects funded by the European Union, as well as in collaborations with companies and institutions. He currently leads the high-performance computing research group within the Social Challenges Research area at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS).

The Night of Telecommunications and Informatics is an event organized by the Catalan Association of Telecommunications Engineering and Digital Technologies (Telecos.cat) and the Official College of Computer Engineering of Catalonia (COEINF).

The ceremony took place at the Auditori de Barcelona and was attended by several authorities, including the Minister for Business and Labour of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Roger Torrent, the First Vice-President of the Parliament of Catalonia, Alba Vergés, the Secretary of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation, Marc Realp, the Fourth Deputy Mayor of the Barcelona City Council, Jordi Valls, and the Delegate President of the Area of General Services and Digital Transition of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Pilar Díaz.
