FIB joins International Women’s Day by promoting women’s presence in computing.
Wednesday 04 March 2026

On March 8, International Women’s Day, the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) joins the global commemoration and reaffirms its commitment to gender equality in computing.
At FIB, the presence of women in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs has increased, and we actively promote awareness and outreach initiatives about STEAM studies in primary and secondary schools. We also organize activities aimed at encouraging scientific and technological vocations among girls and young women.
FIB will continue promoting initiatives that foster girls’ access to ICT studies, gender balance in the Faculty’s governing bodies, and the presence of women in academic careers.
We also co-organize initiatives within international networks that promote women in ICT, such as womEncourage2026, and support recognition initiatives such as the Dona TIC Awards, which highlight the achievements of women in the digital and technology sectors.
In the context of artificial intelligence (AI), we aim to highlight the fundamental role of women in the field of computing, incorporate a gender perspective into this discipline, and encourage reflection on the challenges that still remain in achieving gender equality.
Finally, we would like to remind you that the UPC institutional event will take place tomorrow, Thursday, March 5 at 12:00, at ETSEIB. We encourage the entire UPC community to participate in the activities planned throughout the day. At 12:30, the “Routes of Change” gymkhana will take place, open to the whole UPC community.
