Last Saturday, May 30, the Facultat d’Informàtica de Barcelona (FIB) hosted the grand final of the Karel Challenge 2026. The event celebrated its 10th edition.

Throughout the entire day, the Vèrtex Building at Campus Nord gathered around 150 finalists from different Codelearn centers. This programming eSport tests the participants' logic, speed, strategy, and precision when controlling the Karel robot to overcome obstacles in real time.

The competition was divided into two categories according to the participants' age:

  • Junior Category: The winner was Roger Torres (from the Sant Andreu center), who retained his title as champion for the second consecutive year in an intense Final 4 against programmers from Codelearn Andorra and Banyoles.

  • Senior Category: The victory went to Elies Aynès (from the Manresa center), who was proclaimed the winner of a demanding final lasting more than 20 minutes that required the highest level of planning and adaptation.

All participants from both categories received a finalist medal and merchandising gifts from the FIB. Additionally, high-level technological prizes such as laptops, monitors, gaming keyboards, and consoles were distributed among the top qualifiers.

With the co-organization of this final, the FIB reaffirms its commitment to fostering talent in programming and computational thinking among the youth, many of whom see the faculty as their future university destination.
