On 23 and 24 November 2019, the 3rd edition of HackEPS was held, a hackathon organized by the Escola Politècnica Superior (EPS) of the University of Lleida aimed at fostering interest in programming through the collaborative development of software within 24 hours.
The team of FIB students and inLab scholarship holders composed of Quim Lázaro, Marta Gil, Victor Diví and Albert Garriga won the Eurecat challenge “Cotton Cognitive Task Ordering”, based on artificial intelligence. The winning project, called Dolly Workers, consists of a task prioritization system that simulates the reasoning of different workers, each with their own criteria and priorities.
For its part, the EPS of the University of Lleida presented the “Josep Maria Ribó” Award for Good Programming Practices, regardless of who provided the best solution to the proposed challenges. The jury, composed of EPS professors, awarded the €1,000 prize in computer products to the team behind the Dolly Workers project at a ceremony held on 22 January 2020. The FIB students received the award from Magda Valls, director of the EPS, and Juan Enrique Garrido, professor and coordinator of HackEPS.
The 3rd edition of the Lleida hackathon brought together a record number of 110 participants, who tackled challenges proposed by the companies Eurecat, BonArea, Actium Digital, Invelon and Origen Studio. Several other teams from inLab also participated, including Victor Tomás, Alex Catalán, Alejandro Mas, Ferran Toda and Quim Ferrer.
