Fermín Sánchez wins the UPC Prize for Quality in University Teaching 2020

The professor from the Department of Computer Architecture received this award for launching and implementing active methodologies focused on student learning

The 23rd edition of the UPC Prize for Quality in Teaching, organized each year by the Social Council, recognized in 2020 the academic career of FIB professor Fermín Sánchez Carracedo and of Lourdes Reig Puig, professor at the Barcelona School of Agricultural Engineering (ESAB). In addition, the teaching initiative awarded was an innovation project in learning from the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB).

The jury highlighted the excellent teaching qualities of the FIB professor, emphasizing the initiative and consistency of a professional career in which innovation in teaching has played a central role. Sánchez has implemented active methodologies focused on student learning, both in specific and transversal competences, and his contribution has had a significant impact in the field of computer science.

His efforts to innovate in teaching and to contribute to changing the perspective in this area were also valued. His participation in development cooperation projects and his ability to convey the values inherent to this work in his classes were also recognized when awarding him this prize.

In addition, the UPC Prize for Quality in Teaching decided to nominate Professor Lourdes Reig and the Mechanical Engineering initiative from ETSEIB for the Jaume Vicens Vives distinction for quality in university teaching awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
