Associations Fair

Campus Nord hosts the Associations Fair, an open-air event bringing together associations mainly linked to the three schools on campus. Visitors are offered, completely free of charge, the chance to experience the essence of university, associative, and festive life at the UPC. The aim is to give greater visibility to student associations as well as to make it easier to recruit new members. Because, as veteran members of the associations say, “There are always volunteers missing. Let’s see if people are encouraged to take part, because they’ll enjoy an unforgettable experience!”

A few years ago, the fair was held in the FIB square, but in recent editions it has been moved to the Telecos square, where around twenty stands come together offering video games, contests, raffles… and much more.

FIB Visiona

The interest of companies in this activity is growing, as it serves as a space for them to connect with their future professionals. The same can be said for students, who have the opportunity to make direct contact with some of the best companies in the IT sector, as well as in other sectors such as telecommunications, services, consulting, and others.

The objective of FIB Visiona is to help university students and recent graduates find their first job and, therefore, to enable them to start their professional careers with the best possible guarantees.

Game Jam Barcelona @ UPC

A Game Jam is a gathering dedicated to the rapid prototyping of video games. Participants design a game and develop it within a limited time: 48 hours non-stop.

Game Jam Barcelona@UPC is one of the more than 900 Game Jams that are part of the Global Game Jam. All of them take place simultaneously during the same weekend around the world. The Barcelona@UPC edition held its first event in January 2011 and every year it fills all the available spots.

On the opening day, activities, workshops and talks are usually organized. Afterwards, participants form teams. Once each team has decided which idea to work on, a race against the clock begins to make the game prototype work before time runs out.

Hack UPC

HackUPC was the first hackathon organized by university students in Spain. The first edition took place in February 2016 and brought together more than 500 international students from all over the world. In each edition, many activities are scheduled in parallel to learn new technologies and have fun.

Part of the fun of a hackathon is meeting new people. At the beginning of the event, time is set aside so that everyone can meet and form teams.

Web, mobile, hardware, everything is on the table. Projects are judged on creativity, technical difficulty, polish and usefulness by a panel of judges from both the industry and the Barcelona School of Informatics.

Spring Festival

The Spring Festival is the annual celebration of the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB). Traditionally held on the first non-holiday Friday of May, it is organized by the faculty’s own students and brings together the entire FIB community (students, professors, administrative staff and ICT staff).

Each year, a variety of activities take place throughout the day. For example, in the morning there are sports tournaments; at midday participants organize themselves into groups and each prepares a paella (in honor of the festival’s symbol, Mrs. Shrimp); in the afternoon there are contests, gymkhanas, and live music begins. Live performances by different musical groups fill the heart of the night. The FIB student associations play a very important role in organizing all the activities and, therefore, in the success of the festival.

The festival takes place around the FIB square and lasts all day, from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 2:30 a.m.

UPC Reutiliza Programme

The 'UPC Reutiliza Program' is an initiative of the UPC’s CCD which, by combining learning with social service, aims to promote the reuse of computer equipment and resources that are renewed both within the university itself and in other organizations. After a process of inspection and refurbishment, the equipment is made available to organizations of social interest and to solidarity programs.

Equipment that is truly obsolete or beyond repair is used for spare parts, and any non-reusable material is deposited at a Green Point.

Week of Engineering Competition

The WEC is a week dedicated to UPC students, during which students from different schools step out of the classroom and participate in various technical activities and talks. It also hosts the local round of the largest student-created engineering competition in Europe: EBEC (European BEST Engineering Competition).

In addition, WEC serves as a meeting point between companies and students. Companies can observe participants in action during the activities and evaluate their skills, while students have the opportunity to get closer to the professional world and connect with companies in their sector.
