The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) has presented the LEIA UPC programme, a new institutional strategy to promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence across all areas of the University. The event was attended by the Rector Francesc Torres, along with representatives from the Catalan Government and UPC.

The event began with a visit to the new LEIA UPC building (formerly Nexus I), which becomes the hub of the University’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. This space hosts several leading entities, including InLab FIB, the innovation laboratory of the Barcelona School of Informatics.

With more than 40 years of experience and a team of around 70 professionals, inLab FIB plays a key role in the development of R&D&I projects in ICT, with AI applications in areas such as healthcare, security, and industry.

During the event, awards from the First UPC AI Competition were also presented, where FIB students had a strong presence among the winners.

In the individual category, Miquel López, a student at the Barcelona School of Informatics, received an award.

In the team category, an all-FIB team was recognised: Guillem Garrido Bonastre, Laura Humet Aparici, Raquel Jolis Carné, Martina Massana Massip, Arnau Pons Olivan, Miquel Roca Solé, Santiago Salom Torrens and Maria Sans Bosch.

In addition, in the overall project category, Martina Massana and Maria Sans were awarded the prize for best overall project in the team category. Miquel López also received a runner-up award for best overall project in the individual category.

These recognitions highlight the talent and innovative capacity of FIB students in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as their active involvement in strategic initiatives at the University.
