The Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) took part in the 31st edition of the Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica, held at L’Auditori in Barcelona, a landmark ICT sector event that has been held since 1995 and this year brought together more than a thousand professionals.
Representing FIB were the Dean, Anna Rio, along with Nuria Castell, Karina Gibert, and René Serral, Vice-Dean of the Faculty, accompanied by students, FIB Alumni members, and other institutional representatives, including political authorities and representatives of the Government of Catalonia.
Under the theme “From idea to the ICT industry”, this year’s edition focused on the need to transform knowledge and innovation into real-world solutions with societal impact.
During the event, the La Nit Awards were presented, recognizing excellence, talent, and commitment in the field of telecommunications and information technologies.
In this edition, FIB had a strong presence among the awardees:
• Antonio González Colas, received the Salvà i Campillo Award for Outstanding Personality, in recognition of his career and contributions to computer architecture.
• Lourdes Muñoz Santamaría, Alan Turing Award for Social Commitment (ex aequo), for her work in social innovation based on open data.
• Joan De la Paz Sánchez, Joan Clarke Award for Outstanding CIO, for his career in innovation systems management in the public sector.
• Rosa Maria Badia Sala, La Nit Honor Award, for her outstanding career in supercomputing and distributed systems.
These awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and dissemination of information and communication technologies, both in academia and in the professional sector.
The Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica is a key event for the sector, bringing together professionals, companies, institutions, and public administrations, and highlighting the role of technology in societal development.
