Workshop "An introduction to algorithmic composition and sound synthesis using SuperCollider"

This workshop is a short introduction/orientation of the SuperCollider (real-time sound synthesis and algorithm composition platform),  as well as to automated algorithmic composition systems. The workshop will include some basic concepts of music, sound synthesis, and the use of probability matrices and finite state machines to capture some basic music features. This will be interesting for programmers, composers and general public interested on the topic.

It is recommended that participants bring a laptop with Supercollider installed, so they can follow on their own system. Software is freely available at:
http://supercollider.sourceforge.net/downloads/

The workshop is free and open to everybody who wants to participate. However the number of places is limited.

SHORT BIO
Ivan studied physics and mathematics at the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM), as well as a Masters degree at the same University. From 2011 to 2013 he worked as a professor of Mathematical methods applied to musical composition at UNAM, and developed several collaborations with the National Centre of the Arts of México city. His current work is developed under the supercollider platform and include artificial intelligent methods for the study of high level music features like music coherence or personality. Recent collaborations include a workshop at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology, housed at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University (Canada) and "Icosahedron" piece for Piano and Laptop with Peter Drungle (NY) recorded in México City 2012. In summer 2013 he won a PhD grant of the National Centre for Science and Technology of México to develop a research on automated composition using algorithmic systems in the Artificial Intelligence program of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, where he currently works with the soft computing group.
