Matina Maria Trompouki, FIB Master Student, wins Best Poster Award at ACM's Graduate Student Research Competition at Grace Hopper Conference.

Matina won the third prize for her poster with title: "Efficient pedestrian detection based on Viola-Jones method using multiple GPUs", which was her Master Thesis project, supervised by prof. Nacho Navarro. Given the fact that the first two prizes were awarded to last year PhD students, this international distinction highlights the level of research conducted in UPC.
Matina, who was awarded two scholarships for attending the conference, one by Dropbox and one by ACM, is continuing for a PhD in the Computer Architecture Department of UPC.
ACM, the biggest computer engineering community in the world, gives students the opportunity to present their work in the Student Research Competitions which are co-located with various ACM's conferences and to receive valuable feedback from people in industry and in academia who are experts in their fields. The winners of each conference qualify to the Grand Finals.
