The Barcelona School of Informatics held a tribute event on May 5, 2026, in honor of Professor Karina Gibert on the occasion of her receiving the Medal of Honor of the Parliament of Catalonia. The event took place at the Manuel Martí Recober Auditorium at FIB.
The ceremony, chaired by FIB Dean Anna Rio, began with welcoming remarks by UPC Rector Francesc Torres, followed by a tribute speech delivered by Núria Castell, former Dean of FIB, who highlighted Professor Gibert’s academic career and commitment to research and society.
One of the key moments of the event was the round table moderated by Anna Rio, featuring professionals and individuals connected to Karina Gibert’s career, including Jaume Catarineu, Pau Fonseca, Javier Vázquez-Salceda, Xavier Angerri, Sergi Ramírez, and Júlia López, who shared reflections on her academic and human impact.
The event continued with the presentation of a bouquet of flowers to Professor Karina Gibert, followed by her speech in which she expressed her gratitude for the recognition.
The ceremony also included an address by Mr. Josep Rull, President of the Parliament of Catalonia, who emphasized the importance of the awardee’s scientific and social contributions.
The event also brought together other institutional representatives, including the Minister of Interior and Public Security, Núria Parlon; the Secretary General of the Presidency, Eva Giménez; the Director General for Industry, Xavier Roca; and the President of the UPC Social Council, Montse Guàrdia.
The closing remarks were delivered by Dean Anna Rio, and the event concluded with several group photographs and a reception at the FIB square.
