The Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC) has awarded the Sant Jordi Prizes 2020 of the LXXXIX Awards and Grants Announcement. These awards recognize the work of researchers from all fields of Catalan science and culture and are granted to individuals and works that stand out for their scientific or academic value.

This year, the honorary mention of the CREU CASAS Award from IEC Dones per canviar el món, category A, has been granted to Núria Castell Ariño, PhD in Computer Science from UPC, who received this distinction for her professional career and for promoting and supporting girls in technology. Maria Clara Torrens Mazzei, collaborator of the Equal Opportunities in Architecture, Science and Technology Group (GIOPACT) at UPC, was also awarded this mention.

More than 50 awards were granted in 2020, among which the PRAT DE LA RIBA Prize awarded to the Fundació La Marató de TV3 stands out. Due to the exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 state of emergency, the IEC was unable to hold the official award ceremony.

The Sant Jordi Prizes were established in 1914 and are the oldest tradition of the IEC. Their mission is to contribute to the promotion of scientific research, culture in its broadest sense, and the Catalan language.
