The project “Data science techniques for non-technical loss detection in energy consumption”, coordinated by Professor Josep Carmona from the research group in Algorithmics, Bioinformatics, Complexity and Formal Methods (ALBCOM), has received the special mention of the UPC Research Valorisation Award in the category of best technology transfer project.
The project coordinated by Carmona was developed for the company Naturgy and involved the design of techniques, methodologies and applications to change the way the company approaches the detection of non-technical losses (NTL) in the process of energy distribution and consumption (gas and electricity).
The other winners in this 12th edition of the UPC Research Valorisation Award, organized by the Social Council, were: the European project WOMEN-UP, led by researchers from the Biomedical Engineering Research Centre (CREB), which received the award for best technology transfer project; the BIOMETALLUM patent, promoted by the research group Biological Treatment of Odours and Gaseous Pollutants (BIOGAP), which received the award for best invention for its market application; and SENSOFAR, a spin-off emerging from the Centre for Sensors, Instrumentation and Systems Development (CD6), which was awarded as the best technology-based company.
