Remote connection to laboratory PC

Steps to follow

  1. Connect to VPN
  2. Acces to CoronaBroker  and look for a free PC.
  3. Linux connection via Remote Desktop , Linux connection via SSH or Windows connection via Remote Desktop
  4. If there is any problem first lookup FAQs , if you can't solve the problem open an issue at suport - FIB UTIC: Consultes informàtiques
IMPORTANT!! Please, use Disconnect Session in order to close the connexion on Windows. This way the Computer will be available for other user.

VPN Connection

First of all connect with the VPN upc https://serveistic.upc.edu/ca/upclink/documentacio

Once we are sure it's connected let's follow with the connection to the labs PC.

  • Linux: Check that the connection status is Session Established. If this is the status you should have access by now.
  • Windows: If the username and the password are correct and you are connected, the status will have changed to Connected and the central console will be automatically minimized.

Linux connection via SSH

From Linux client

Broker will assign you a free PC with Linux. Then, do the following:

We'll use the graphic environment of our computer, so with the connection via ssh we'll be able to execute programs and open our environment as if we were in a laboratory. 

Let's open a console and write:

Where nom.cognom is the username that we use to access the laboratory PCs. if we check the DISPLAY, something like this should appear in your console:

If we now execute some program, like dbeaver it should execute and open in our graphic environment.

From Windows client

You must install a graphic environment for linux. We recomment this one:

We also recommend putty, which is free and it's only one file to download to install it, but if you want to use another the instructions would be similar activating the XForwarding.

Go to broker, that will assign us a free PC with linux which we will have to write in the field "Host Name" for the connection.

Activate X11Forwarding, go to X11 and check it's marked:

If we now execute some program, like dbeaver it should execute and open in our graphic environment.

 

Windows connection via Remote Desktop

IMPORTANT!! Please, use Disconnect Session in order to close the connexion on Windows. This way the Computer will be available for other user.

Connect to the broker page and click to connect a PC with Windows.

From Linux client

We recommend software remmina which is avaliable in most distributions.

First you'll ned to accept the trust certificate.

And then you can access with name.surname that you use to access PCs. It's very important to mark STARK domain.

From Windows client

Let's connect to the broker and click the button connection with windows.

Execute the downloaded file:

Log in to STARK domain:

Connect to the broker page and click to connect a PC with Linux RDP.

From Linux client

We recommend software remmina which is avaliable in most distributions.

 

 

Then you must introduce linux credentials in order to work with Linux PC.

 

 

From Windows client

Let's connect to the broker and click the button connection with Linux RDP. Open/Execute the file with "Remote Desktop Connection".

The following warning could show up, you must press connect button:

Problems and solutions

- The following error shows up if the password is incorrect in "Connection Linux RDP": "Connecting to sesman ip 127.0.0.1 port 3350"

-

- Problems with credentials when connecting to RDP windows from a w10 Pro client, download RDP file without open it . Right click for opening it with "Remote Desktop Connection" classic version.

- Matlab is not working in linux RDP: Check that in your RDP configuration you have the option "True color 24"
