Love to build interesting web and mobile applications? This is your chance to learn about exciting new open source developer tools, languages and technologies from Yahoo! web gurus – then build your dream app in our 24-hour Hack competition.
Every fall we bring a team of the best engineers and developers out to a handful of universities for a week of all things Open Source. During the week you’ll have the opportunity to attend tech talks and hands-on coding workshops where you’ll get hacking tips, see examples, and learn about the latest web languages, industry tools and technology. You’ll also make connections with cool engineering and product groups at Yahoo! which could lead to some terrific internship opportunities!
The week’s events culminate in the Hack U™ competition—a festival of caffeinated coding, food, shwag, games, music, fun, demos and, of course, prizes. The winners from each university will join us at our Open Hack developer event where they will have the chance to show their hack to VCs, industry execs and the hacker community for the chance to win prizes and major street cred!
We’ll teach you how to prototype, give you access to tons of APIs and tools in the Yahoo! Developer Network (check out YQL, YUI Library, Connected TV widgets and Metro just to name a few) but you’re welcome to use any cool open source web tools to bring your hack to life. Remember hacking is not about perfect code, just a cool idea and working prototype.
No rules. No limitations. Just show up and hack for your chance to win cool prizes, a spot in the hack gallery, street cred and the opportunity to represent your school at the Open Hack event!
Get a team together or hack it alone. Either way, check out previous Hack U™ developer.yahoo.com/hacku
You can hack at the Campus Nord or remotely, but must be present at the demos to win.
Remote support will be provided at irc.freenode.net/hacku
The prizes are:
1st place- Apple Ipod shuffle w itunes gift card (one for each member of winning team)
2nd Place- Yahoo limited edition robot mimobot and Hack U sweatshirt blanket
