Frequently Asked Questions

It asks me for the Root password when I start up Linux. What do I do?
Press Ctrl+D and wait until the machine restarts. In the Rembo menu, select “reparar Linux” and when this finishes, start Linux normally.

Why does chmod not work on the Linux machines in the labs?
The user space (HOME) is mounted with the protocol Samba/CIFS where the file permissions behave differently. With chmod you will not be able to change permissions since they are predefined by the configuration files of the Samba protocol itself.

If the Mozilla browser or any other program does not work properly, or else you have problems in starting up a session correctly, you should try on more than one PC.
It may be that your problems are caused by the corruption of your profile, in which case you should contact operations so they can regenerate it for you.

After starting up a Windows or Linux session, you find there are files missing perhaps because the session did not end correctly.
You can contact operations so that they can recover the missing files. You should not continue working with your account until it has been restored, since otherwise you may overwrite the new files and lose the old ones in the backups.

I deleted a file in Windows and when I go to look for it in the recycle bin, I can't find it.
If you delete a file on the F: drive from Windows, it does not go into the recycle bin, but instead it is deleted directly. If you need to recover it, please go to backup services.

I have deleted files but the system still says that I have no disk quota available.
Check in the recycle bin to see whether your files arestill waiting to be deleted.
