Degrees

Degree's structure

The degrees are structured in bi-annual subjects. Each subject has assigned a specific number of credits depending on their academic load. In order to obtain the degree is necessary to pass a specific number of credits. These credits are obtained:
  • coursing all the compulsory subjects from the degree.
  • coursing elective subjects.
  • coursing free elective  subjects.
  • and developing the final project degree.

Normative of the permanence

The normative of the Technical University of Catalonia force the students to pass a minimum of 15 credits corresponding to mandatory subjects the first year of their studies. Otherwise, the student has to abandon his degree. Also the students are forced to pass the Selection Phase in a maximum of 2 years from the entrance to the faculty. Otherwise the student should abandon the degree.

Selection Phase

The Selection Phase consist of the subjects from the first course, so the two first semesters. Are 8 subjects with a sum of 67,5 credits.

While you are attending subjects from the Selection Phase it is not possible to attend subjects from higher courses. During this period, the faculty observe your performance to decide if you will be able to finish your degree in a reasonable time. So the student will have to pass:
  • During the first year (two semesters), pass at least 15 credits.
  • In a maximum of 2 years (four semesters), pass all the subjects from the Selection Phase.
If an student don't carry out this two conditions,  in general he should abandon his studies in the faculty.

The Selection Phase is common in the three degrees at FIB.

Requirements between subjects

In order to be able to register in a subject is necessary to have carried out some necessaries requirements. There are 4 different types of requirements:

  • Pre-requirement. If a subject A is pre-requirement of another subject B, it means that to be able to register B is necessary to have passed the subject A.
  • Co-requirement. If a subject A is co-requirement of another subject B, it means that to be able to register B is necessary to have passed or to be register in the subject A.
  • Pre-co_requirement. If a subject A is pre-co-requirement of another subject B, it means that to be able to register B is necessary to have been register in A.
  • O-requirement. If two subject A and B are o-requirement of another subject C, it means that to register C is necessary to have passed the subject A or B.
