The FIB provides email accounts to all its students from their initial enrolment until two semesters after they have finished their degree.

username@est.fib.upc.edu  where username is the FIB username with the pattern  (name.surename).

How to use

Reading email

There are two ways to access your mailbox:

  • Through any mail client that has the POP or IMAP STARTTLS or SSL encryption, such as Thunderbird.
    • To use this service, you must configure a mail reader with the following parameters:
      • Incoming mail server: correu.fib.upc.es
      • Reception Protocol: IMAP or POP
      • Type of Security: SSL
      • Port of entry: 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP)
      • Outgoing mail server: smtp.upc.edu
      • Outgoing Server Authentication: Yes, requires authentication
      • Type of Security: STARTTLS
      •  Username (input and output) On using the Corner (name.surname
  • From a web browser through the Webmail service. It can be accessed directly at  https://webmail.fib.upc.edu or from the link available at Racó.

 

Email Redirection

If you want to redirect your e-mail address for any FIB you can do the day you sign up, or later through e-office. Keep in mind that changes you make will be effective in our systems (as well as in Atenea and other UPC information systems)  from 9:00 am of the following day.

 

Communication FIB / UPC via email

FIB and UPC will only use your  institutional email (name.surename@est.fib.upc.edu) to communicate with you, so it is important that you have successfully redirected it. Please check periodically for new messages. FIB and UPC reserve the right not to answer any email coming from a different email address to the institution or the one that has been indicated as an alternative in the e-office.

Quota available

Available quota for e-mails is 100MB. You must clean your email account from time to time,  because if you fill the quota, you can have problems receiving new emails.

 

Conditions of use

The use made of this service must be in accordance with the code of conduct.

 

Expirations

The user account will only remain active for two semesters after the last registration. Subsequently the account will be removed.

 

Alternative to sending large files

Alternatively to the email Calaix  service is offed at the link  http://calaix.fib.upc.edu, that allows transmitting large files that would be rejected by the mail server.

 

How to read emails from your FIB account using Gmail

Gmail  allows you to read / end messages from other email accounts using Gmail. To do this, you should sign into your Gmail account and go to Settings > Accounts

In the "Get mail from other accounts," you must select "Add a mail account you own." In the new window that appears, enter the FIB student email with the following information:
 

  • Username and password: Your username and password (you login at Racó).
  • POP or IMAP server with SSL: Your Gmail automatically adds "correu.fib.upc.edu."
  • POP SSL Port: 995
  • IMAP SSL Port: 993
  • Enable the option "when retrieving mail Always use a secure connection (SSL)".

The other three options are optional:

  •  Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server: The messages will be received in Gmail account as a student. If left disabled, only messages arrive in Gmail.
  •  Label incoming messages: Gmail will add the tag suitable for all emails received to the student account.
  •  Archive incoming messages (Skip the Inbox): Gmail will create a new folder to store the mail account and no student will go to the Inbox.

Select "Add Account". Gmail gives you the option to send messages to this address, so you can respond directly using the student email address and not the Gmail.
Select "Yes" and enter the name you want.
Gmail will ask you for verification that you have access to your email account and will send a message to the student address to check it.
Select "Send Verification" enter the confirmation code you received and select "Verify."
Since then you will receive your emails from your student address on Gmail and account settings will appear under Settings> Accounts. From there you can edit your account information or delete it, select messages automatically, reply with the address to which it has been allocated, ..
