The Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) has always had among its goals the quality assurance of its academic programs. In that sense, the FIB took part as a reference school during the process of obtaining the quality seal EFQM at the maximum level of excellence by the UPC. This seal was awarded to the UPC in March 2002.
The adaptation of its degrees to the European Higher Education Area was considered by the School as an opportunity to design and implement an Internal Quality Assurance System (SAIQ). This Internal Quality Assurance System served two purposes:

- To ease the ex-ante verification and the ex-post accreditation of the new degrees.
- To monitor the degrees, assuring they reach the high quality level that is a trade mark of FIB
This quality assurance system has been defined in the framework of the Program AUDIT, according with the guidelines established by the Quality Agencies ANECA, AQU and AGSUG, and is in compliance with the principles of legality, publicity, transparency and participation.
The design of the SAIQ shows the implication and commitment of the Directive Board and all the staff when assuring the quality of the academic programs. In that sense, the implementation of the SAIQ allows FIB to arise the following goals:
- To establish the quality criteria, monitoring the processes defined to reach them and establishing strategies of continuous enhancement
- To respond to the commitment of satisfying the needs and meeting the expectations of the different stakeholders
- To monitor the degrees in order to facilitate their accreditation
The FIB received a GLOBAL POSITIVE EVALUATION of its Internal Quality Assurance System designed in the framework of Program AUDIT, as it's attested in the certificate issued by AQU (*) in June 2009.
